Growing from humble beginnings, the spirited bush town of Alice Springs started out in the 1870's as a lonely repeater station for the overland telegraph line that ran the length of Australia and on to Europe. Locally known as 'The Alice', it has known come a long way from its modest beginnings and is now a modern town that still has a strong flavor of its outback heritage.
