Location: The Kakadu National park is situated 171 kilometers east of the Darwin city of Australia. The nearest city to the Park is Jabiru. The area is full of aboriginal population.

Climate: The climate of the place is not much varied. There are two distinct seasons , the wet and the dry.

When to Go: In the wet season it is actually impossible to travel to any of the major attractions of the park. The period from May to September is the ideal time to visit the Kakadu National Park.

Accessibility: The Kakadu National Park has two entry points to it. The northern point can be reached through the Arnhem Hwy. More or less all organized tours start from here. If one is driving in from anywhere else other than Darwin then the entrance will be Stuart Hwy. The Darwin International Airport is the nearest, while coaches operate from Darwin, Jabiru and Cooinda.

Tourist Attractions: There is a lot to see in this park. The importance of this park lies in the fact that UNESCO has declared it a world Heritage site. The sites of interest here are the following:

  • The Bowali Visitor centre: provides the visitors with an opportunity to know about the people, geology, flora , fauna, and resources which has made Kakadu an interesting place to visit.
  • The Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural centre is delineates the culture of the locals.
  • The park is filled with billabongs or ox – bow lakes that are full of deadly alligators. They are either basking on the banks or floating in the rivers during the daytime.
  • The Birdlife in the park is multihued and remarkable. The very sight of Jacana or the Jesus bird flying from one lily pad to the other is divine.
  • The Yellow Water billabong (Ngurrungurrudjba) becomes an alluring destination in the evening when hundreds of herons come down and move on from the half dipped trees.
  • The aboriginal paintings on the overhangs in the Nourlangie area are admirable
  • Several pretty waterfalls with their plunge pools in the park are refreshing with their sparkling waters.
