The Paronella Park of Cairns spread over an area of 13 acres of tropical rainforest along the Mena Creek gifts you with a unique experience that is hard to resist. Lying close to the park is the falls which plunges in complete beauty. Hear the whistles and the tunes of the tropical birds like the emerald ground doves, the yellow bellied sunbirds and many others.

History
The Paronella Park of Cairns was originally created in 1930 by Jose Paronella who arrived in Australia from Catalonia. After his arrival in 1913 he worked for the following 11 years in cane farms. In 1924 he came on a second visit to Australia together with his wife. Jose in 1929 bought 13 acres of land along the Mena Creek and he fulfill his dream of pleasure gardens.
The park was finally opened in 1935 for the public. Movies were shown and at the same time it developed in to a major venue for parties and dances.
The park has been listed in the National Trust List in 1997. Simultaneously the park has managed to get a total of 11 tourism awards from the period of 1998 to 2000.

What to do
The park arranges for you a 45minutes guided tour that focuses on the story of Jose and his dreams. The tour stars from 9:30 in the morning and continues till 4:30pm at a regular interval of 20 minutes.
Learn the intricacies of the medicinal plants as also the trees that are used for providing food, shelter and tools. Demos of shelter making, fire lighting are also given that is followed by a brief dance in a natural setting. From 6:30 pm the visitors get to see the delights of the nightlife at the park.

The park is locate at the Japoobvale Road.

Timings
The park is open to public on al days except Christmas day. The park opens at 8:30 in the morning and closes at 5 in the evening.
