The National Museum of Australia, Canberra was established by the National Museum of Australia Act 1980. it was opened to the public in March 2001 and this museum has strived to contain all aspects of Australian life within its purview.

It is located in the Acton suburb near the peninsula. This peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin was where the Royal Canberra Hospital was located but it was demolished for the setting up of this museum.
