Lake Burley Griffin Canberra
Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra is one of the chief tourist attractions of this federal capital city of Australia. Constructed in 1963, after the damming of the Molonglo River, this lake lies in the centre of Canberra, and is named after Walter Burley Griffin, the architect who won the competition for the designing of the city of Canberra.Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra forms the centerpiece of the city, and covers an area of 7 sq km, an average depth of 4.5 m and a shoreline of 36 km bordered by gardens and picnic areas. A striking path borders the lake, and is used by walkers, cyclists and joggers.
Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra is situated roughly at the center of the city, and has various important institutions lying on its shores, such as the National Gallery of Australia, National Museum of Australia, National Library of Australia and the High Court of Australia. The Parliament House lies not too far away.
