Hinze Gold Coast
Sprawling over an area of 209 kilometer the Hinze dam's catchments area runs through Numinbah Valley and Springbrook Plateau. Most of the area of the dam lies in the State Forests and National Parks of Australia.
The Hinze Dam in Gold Coast supplies most of the city's water. Although the Wivenhoe Dam supplies water to various parts of northern suburbs and the Little Nerang Dam supplies water to some parts of Gold Coast, the Hinze dam supplies the major amount of water. It is also considered a major tourist attraction of Australia.
Located at a distance of 15 km southwest of Nerang, the construction of the dam was completed in 1976 and expanded in 1989. At the joining of the Nerang River and Little Nerang Creek Hinze dam holds at least 161,070 million litres of water gushing over an area of 9.72 square kilometers.
The lake created by the dam, Advancetown Lake, is a popular recreational site for Gold Coast residents. The dam also provides the benefits of flood mitigation and environmental protection. It is regarded as a well-appreciated effort to combat environmental evils.
The Hinze, Gold Coast was designed for construction in three stages. The construction of the first stage was completed in 1976. It provided a storage space to 42,400 million litres of water. The second stage was completed in 1989 and the storage space increased to 161,070 million liters. The construction of the final stage of the dam began in 2004. It is expected to be over between 2011 and 2013.| Hotels in Gold Coast | |
