Soon the club felt the need to organize a festival, which will give the musicians of Tasmania an opportunity to show their skills. Thus the first festival was held in 1982. At that time it was known as Huon Folk Festival. Initially the festival was held in the month of May. In 1983 it moved to March and eventually in 1984, it was held in January. Since then it has been held every year in the month of January.
