Enterprize Day is celebrated annually in Melbourne and it commemorates the Europeans’ settlement in Australia. The city celebrates this day on the 30th of August every year and it is an insignia of the fact that on this day, the first settlers had arrived on the northern bank of the Yarra River, traveling on a schooner - Enterprize. Thus, we now have the Enterprize Day, Melbourne to remember the vessel that had introduced Australia to the European settlers.

Enterprize Day is much more than merely the day on which Melbourne was founded. It also represents the time from when the community had started to take form and now it has emerged to be the world’s most warm and livable city. There are a number of events that are planned so that the Melbournians not only enjoy but also learn about the history of their city.

Enterprize Day Celebrations, Melbourne

The Enterprize Open Day celebrations aim at entertaining the Melbournians and, as a part of the celebrations, there are free tours aboard the replica of the schooner, Enterprize. This tour starts off from the NewQuay, Docklands and it gives fascinating insights on the life aboard the Enterprize.

The flag raising ceremony and morning tea at Enterprize Park is held on the Enterprize Day, Melbourne as the Lord Mayor hoists the flag of Melbourne and starts off the live entertainment and also the rifle volley by the Historical Re-Enactment Society.

Melbourne Day debate at noon is a cornerstone event that is very popular on the Enterprize Day and is attended by most people in Melbourne.

Awards ceremony and dinner at the Melbourne Town Hall is held at about 7 pm on the evening of Enterprize Day, Melbourne. There are awards given out to those who have contributed significantly but have not been given recognition.

An important event at the Enterprize Day celebrations in Melbourne is the exhibition. The changing face of Victoria features in the Dome gallery that is open from 10 am to 5 pm. This exhibition puts together innumerable documents like diaries, historical artifacts, maps, drawings, letters and photographs that have shaped the life in Victoria during the last two centuries.
