Perth population is a culturally diverse population of more than 1.47 million people comprising of people from UK, New Zealand, Italy, Malaysia, India and South Africa. Population of Perth has always been diverse with people coming in from other continents since the 19th century perhaps due to the pleasant Perth weather and it's placing in the world map.

The 19th Century saw the earliest European settlers in Perth coming in from Britain and Ireland.The mid-twentieth century however saw a significant number of Italians and Greeks adding to the Perth population.

A little later, with the set up of the Fremantle city and the port, at the mouth of the Swan River, many migrant ships started coming from Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. Demography of Perth became more diverse with Dutch, Germans, Croats and Macedonians and many others flocking to Perth.

Lately, there has been an upsurge in Perth population by air from various countries. Most significantly, the migration of people from Britain by air has been very high. It has been said that Perth bears the highest proportion of British-born residents of any Australian city claiming 12.4 per cent of the population in Perth metropolitan area.

Another significant section of migrant population comprising Perth demographics comes from New Zealand. This is so mainly because of the relaxed laws for New Zealanders migrating to Australia as they enjoy 'special category' visa which imposes little restriction on them to live and work in Australia.

The third largest section immigrants adding to Perth population comes from Italy forming 1.6 per cent of Perth population. The Irish and the Croats are well represented as well. The last three decades has seen a huge population also coming in from South East Asian countries to Perth. They include Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. The later half of 1990s has seen a new influx of white South Africans and Zimbabweans, settling in the city. Perth population also boasts of holding the largest population of Anglo Burmese in the world as well.

Perth population is hence distinctive in its character. It seems to be a city with open arms comfortably accommodating anyone coming to her.
