The Bally Hooley Steam Train Services was inaugurated on August 1 st 1900. However the services for the general public lasted till 1957 and were taken care by the Douglas Shire Council. The line on which the train began operating was primarily used for the transport of sugar and passengers between Mossman and the wharf at Port Douglas.

The Bally Hooley Steam Train covers a track of 4 kilometer, starting at the Port Douglas Marina Mirage Station. The old cane cutters barracks from the Mossman Mills was remodeled to make the Port Douglas Marina Mirage Station.

Visitors can enjoy the service of the Bally Hooley Steam Railway only on public holidays and Sundays in Port Douglas. The Railway Authority also grants the permission of hiring the train entirely for a private ride.

In the present scenario, the Bally Hooley Steam Railway is managed by a group of dedicated volunteers who aim to preserve this historical relic related to Port Douglas's past.
