Port Douglas Village Carnivale has an essence of its own due to the very strong local participation from all walks of life, including the local sugar industry and fishing fleet. Started in the year 1993, Port Douglas Village Carnivale was developed to celebrate the opening of the tourist season and promote the area both domestically and internationally.

Features of Port Douglas Village Carnivale

• Port Douglas Village Carnivale is held in either the 3rd or 4th week of May each year.

• The festival sees the local community being actively involved in every aspect - from designing a float, raising money for their school, club or charity, showcasing their products, creating sand sculptures or simply being one of the crowds – it is of the people, by the people and for the people.

• The week of events starts off with a night sail of the yachts participating in the Port Douglas Yacht Club Clipper Cup.

• Then, it is the turn of Links Golf Club Port Douglas, Carnivale Golf Challenge.

• The whole of Port Douglas dress up in resort style building up the perfect mood for a fashion parade and entertainment throughout the afternoon.

• The Longest Lunch sees the finest and the freshest of the exotic Australian fares served by a variety of restaurants.

• The other exciting event is the Rugby Tournament which is held over the two days of the weekend with the presence of some high profile players.

• The Carnivale on Macrossan is the time for the Macrossan Street becoming a boulevard of open air dining, street theatre, music and dance.

• The highlight is the Grand Float Parade where entertainers come together with the people to enjoy the festivities.

• The evening brings the Carnivale Masquerade Cocktail Party to celebrate the launch of Carnivale.

• Festivities on famous Four Mile Beach begin with the Four Mile Beach Family Fun Day.

• The beach looks like a living art gallery where the local artists and visitors curve out sand models.

• The judges have a tough job when it comes to choose the various winners and Grand Champion.

• The park becomes alive with market stalls, entertainment, street theatre and Kid's World, a special place for the children.

• Another recently added event is the Rydges Reef Resort Port Classic Triathlon prior to the Family Fun Beach Day.

• The Food and Wine Festival is all about exciting food and wine amidst swaying palm trees, moon light across the Coral Sea and the ancient majestic mountains of the Daintree Rainforest.

• The Marina Mirage Seafood Extravaganza sees everyone heading for the Marina Mirage for a leisurely breakfast and entertainment.

The local fishermen provide the tempting selection of seafood covering every seafood delicacy.
