The first cycling race took place in 1868. It was a 2kilometers race at the Pare de St. Cloud, Paris. They are responsible for implementing strategies and developing suitable environment to enhance participation in cycling. Cycling in Sydney is a major sport. One of the main clubs affiliated to the Cycling NSW is the Clarence St CCC. The president of the club is Jonathan McCormack while the treasurer is Belinda Foster. Cycling is one of the most popular sports in Sydney. Some of the famous cyclists in Australia are from Sydney like Luke Cridland, Sean Eadie, Nick Gates, Mathew Hayman, Sam Lee, Bradley McGee OAM, Hugh Mansfield, Garry Millburn, Angus Morton, Nathan O’Neill, Matthew Pettit, Michael Robinson, Matt White, Trent Wilson, Stephen Wooldridge OAM and Josh Fleming who have achieved both national and international recognition.

In 2007 Sydney will be home to the Sydney Cup on Wheels/ Dunc Gray, the Australian Track Championships/DuncGray, the Clarence Street Cyclery Cup/ Dunc Gray, and the Australian Junior Track Championships (U15/17).
