Strand Arcade, Sydney was built in the year 1891 and opened to the public in the year 1892. At that time it was the fifth largest shopping arcade built during the Victorian period. It is one of the most stylish and elegant looking buildings of the city, which has still retained its olden day grandeur and opulence. The shopping center, originally known as City Arcade, was named The Strand after the famous street in London. The building was partly destroyed in the fire of 1976. However, extensive renovations helped in restoring the original form of the building.
