Tobruk or Tubruq is a coastal town on the edge of the Libyan Desert. Tobruk Memorial Baths is one of the many swimming pool complexes built in Queensland to honor the sacrifices made by those who served in the Second World War.

The Tobruk Memorial Baths were constructed over the period of 1941-50 and is considered significant by the Australians because it was made as a memorial to the Australians who fought and died during the Siege of Tobruk from 9 April to 13 December 1941.

Tobruk Memorial Baths served as the training ground for most of the winners of 1956 and 1960 Olympic games and raised the popularity of the place to the maximum. Tobruk Memorial Baths is a fine example of civic design.

The Memorial Baths is situated close to the Anzac Memorial Park and The Strand. The memorial adds to the aesthetic quality of the surrounding area through the distinctive architectural style.

The Tobruk Memorial Baths, Townsville was made open to the public on 14 October 1950 but officially the baths were opened on 26 November 1951.

Tobruk Memorial Baths, Townsville has a brickwork pavilion with an entrance, changing rooms, huge size pools, a pool for toddlers and the Olympic pool.
