Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area in Chengdu is often referred to as one of the wonderlands on earth. According to popular belief, no other place boasts of such magnificent scenery and fables of dreamlike eloquence or natural purities like a fairyland such as the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area.

Jiuzhaigou Valley or the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area is situated in Nanping County which lies about 450kms to the north of Chengdu City. The scenic area got its name due to the existence of nine stockade villages of Tibetan origin. The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area was always regarded as a holy mountain and watercourse by the people of Tibet.

The scenic area of Jiuzhaigou is a great masterpiece of nature. It features scenery and abundant natural resources just like you would perhaps visualize in your dreams. The resources combines blue lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests, snow covered mountains and the folk customs of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples.

Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area in Chengdu covers an area of more than 600 square kilometers. The region also includes areas such as Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, Zechawa Valley and Zharu Valley. Some of the beauty spots in the area such as the calc-sinter lake groups, waterfalls, and other waterscapes, as well as 12 summits make Jiuzhaigou Valley make it a wonderful sight.

According to legend, the deity of mountain named Dago had a crush on the goddess Semo long time ago, and he a mirror which was made from wind and cloud to the goddess. However, at this point of time a devil appeared and caused trouble to Semo, the goddess. It is believed that inadvertently, Semo broke the mirror into 108 pieces, which fell down to the earth and then turned to 108 colorful lakes. The local people refer to the lake as Haizi.
