Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the Mainland China. The other Special Administrative Region of the country is Macau. The city of Hong Kong consists of around 260 islands. The word "Hong Kong" can be interpreted as "The Fragrant Harbour" in the Chinese language. The city has got some other names as well. These are "The Pearl of the Orient", "The Gateway to the East" and so on.

Hong Kong is located in the southeastern coastal region of the People's Republic of China. It also shares its border with the Pearl River Delta towards the eastern side.
The southern region of the South China Sea shares its border with Hong Kong. The city is also a neighbor of the Guangdong Province towards the northerm side.

The major portion of the total population of Hong Kong is covered with the Chinese descendents. Most of these descendents are Cantonese people. Varios other ethnicities also reside in Hong Kong such as the Hakka and Teochew and so on. Cantonese and English are the two official languages of Hong Kong. However, Cantonese is mostly spoken.
