China Time Zones

China Time Zones

Due to the geographical vastness, China Time Zones are divided amongst five regions. This consists of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. However, due to administrative purposes these regions have been following China Standard Time, which is 8 hours ahead of the Coordinated Universal Time. This has been the practice for the past few decades.

Time zones made their entry into the Chinese time in the year 1912 after the Republic of China came into existence. At that point of time, the China Time Zones had five divisions, which were Kunlun Time Zone (GMT+5.5), Sinkiang-Tibet Time Zone (GMT+6), Kansu-Szechuan Time Zone (GMT+7), Chungyuan Standard Time Zone (GMT+8), and Changpai Time Zone (GMT+8.5). After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, these time zones were not in use any more.

The standard time of China is known as Beijing Time or the China Standard Time. There is an ethnic group, known as the Uyghurs, belonging to the Uyghur Autonomous Region, follow their own standard time. This is the Urumqi Time, which runs two hours behind the Beijing Time.

The Special Administrative Regions of China, which are Hong Kong and Macau, follow the same China Time Zone, UTC (+8). They used to have a daylight saving time in the past, but now it is not there any more
