Guangdong Folk Arts and Crafts Museum in Guangzhou is an art museum that collects, exhibits and researches Chinese folk art works and handicrafts. Established in 1959, it is located in Chenshi Academy at the Zhongshan Road. Features of Guangdong Folk Arts and Crafts Museum in Guangzhou- The Chenshi Academy, popularly known as Chenjia Temple, was established in the 16th year (1890) of the reign of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty.- Its grounds cover an area of 13,200 square meters and a main construction area of 6,400 square meters. Consisting of 19 buildings, the temple includes three rows of houses and five other homes. - The temple's design is precise and symmetrical, with stone a carving, brick relieves, wooden sculptures, color glazed pottery figures of Shiwan, iron casting and decorative paintings. - The museum has a brilliant collection of historical materials as well as artworks, crafts and works of famous modern artists. - With donations from personal collections of eminent historians and art collectors, the museum has now over 15,000 pieces of cultural relics with over 300 being first-class cultural items.- Most collections are Guangdong folk art works and handicrafts from the Ming Dynasty to the modern times. - There is an amazing collection of Shiwan pottery and porcelain. - The museum regularly hosts various composites or special exhibitions like the Exhibition of Pottery and Porcelain in Hungary, Precious Collections about International Friendship, Hong Kong Painter Zhao Shiguang's Painting Exhibition, Folk Handicrafts of Henan and other famous artists' personal exhibitions too.
