Acrobatics and circus shows, throughout the world, have had been held at changing venues. Actually mobility is what best describes such shows. However, in the 1990s, the municipal cultural authority of Shanghai thought it would be a good idea to construct a permanent venue for acrobatics and circus. After 4 years of construction work since 1995, Shanghai Circus world finally opened for the public in 1999.

Located at New Gonghe Road, Shanghai Circus World has a golden dome roof. Since circus and acrobatic shows are held regularly at this venue, the building has acrobatic field, animal room. With seating arrangements for 1638 people, the acrobatic fields have proper lighting facilities. Good sound system is also installed to let even the last row audience hear sounds clearly. The three dimensional stage is state-of-the-art which can be revolved. Height too can be adjusted. Besides acrobatics and circus shows, the venue has also seen magic performances.

Shanghai Circus World regularly hosts acrobatics and circus shows. Variously priced the price of tickets start from around 80 Chinese Yuan and can go up to 580 Yuan. The price of tickets depends on several factors like the position of a seat, the show itself and the day of the performance. Seats in the first row naturally command the highest price than the later rows. Depending on the troupe, the price also changes. Tickets cost more when famous troupes like Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe performs. Similarly weekends see tickets priced on a higher side.
