The Yangshan Islands, Shanghai is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers from the land of Shanghai, and lies in the East Sea. Yangshan Islands of Shanghai consists of two big islands. The Yangshan Deep Water Port is connected to the Yangshan Islands through the Donghai Bridge, which is also the longest bridge in the world.

The Yangshan Deep Water Port project is one of the world's largest port projects that have yet been undertaken. The objective behind setting up Yangshan Deep Water Port is to build a world class deep water port in Shanghai which would easily accommodate larger ships. Yangshan Islands of Shanghai was chosen as the site to build this deep water port. The fact that the depth of the water here is more than 15 meters made Yangshan Islands a perfect location for the construction of this port. This makes it the most suitable destination to set up a big port in Shanghai's Yangshan Island. The first phase of the project, which was initiated a few years ago, has been completed in 2005.
