Sun Yat sen Home Shanghai
Sun Yat-sen Home, Shanghai is one of the significant tourist destinations of the city. It is the erstwhile residence of the Sun Yat-sen, who was the precursor of democratic revolution in China, founder of the Republic of China and a significant contributor to the modern history of China. The building was opened to public in 1988 and although the building is not that much noticeable amongst the high skyscrapers that surround it, but people visit the place out of sheer respect for Sun Yat-sen.
The house was resided by Sun Yat-sen and his wife Soong Ching Ling in between 1918 and 1925. The house was actually donated by a patriotic overseas Canadian Chinese, who supported the Chinese revolution. The building is significant because it was here that Sun Yat-sen accomplished some of the most important works of his life. It was in this house that Mr. Sun completed his masterpieces such as Doctrines of Sun Wen and Plans of China's Development. He also received the representatives of the Communist Party of China, which initiated the process of cooperation between the two major parties in Chinese modern history.
Mrs. Soong died in the year 1925, but then even after her death, Mr. Sun continued to live in the house till 1937, when Shanghai was take under the control of the Japanese army. Today the house nestles many mementoes of Sun Yat-sen. Here you can see a range of articles and things used by both Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling. The activities of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, particularly those days when he lived in Shanghai, are also exhibited in historical materials and pictures. Every year on the birth and death anniversaries of Mr. Sun, people from all walks of life, come to the house and pay their respect to the great man.
