Shenzhen has about 44 bus stations with 95 registered transportation companies. There are above 150 buses that ply between Shenzhen and Guangzhou everyday, while up to 300 buses shuttle daily from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. There are nearly 70,000 cargo transport vehicles which have resulted in the growth of plenty of registered companies.There are 2800 kilometers of roads and 200 kilometers of expressways with a density of 0.75 kilometers per sq. kilometer in Shenzhen. The road network, comprising expressways, trunk roads, main roads, viaduct roads, has hugely cut down on the travel time both within and without the Special Economic Zone to half an hour and from Shenzhen to the neighboring cities by an hour.
The taxis are metered and they come in three colors. The red taxis travel anywhere; the green ones are restricted to the area outside the SEZ, while the yellow ones operate within the SEZ zone. Intercity bus operators run an adequate number of coaches to ensure the smooth delivery of all road passengers. Travelers are advised to get their tickets at least three days prior to their journey. It is also advised that they avail the services of buses that are operated by reputed companies in order to ascertain secure journeys.
