Getting to Shenzhen by Sea

The strategic location in the Pearl River delta in the Guangdong province has positioned Shenzhen port adjacent to Hong Kong. The 260 kilometers coastline is divided by the Kowloon Peninsula into the twin halves of the eastern and the western. The western port area lies east of the Pearl River Estuary and possesses a deep water harbor with splendid natural shelters. The port business areas include Shekou and Yantian.

The regions of Shekou and Fuyong open ferries to Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai which land at the ferry terminal at Shekou. There are fast ferries too connecting the west edge of the Special Economic Zone with the Hong Kong International Airport, Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island. In the year 2004, the total passenger turnover of the Shenzhen Prefecture reached the figure of about 3.45 million. Located at a distance of 20 miles from Hong Kong to the south and 60 miles from Guangzhou to the north, the Pearl River delta extends to all ports – both at home and abroad.

North of the Dapeng Bay lies the eastern port area where the harbor is wide and calm and is hence regarded as the best natural harbor in Southern China. There are 33 shipping companies that are registered in the city with more than 190 vessels. More than 560 ships berth in Shenzhen every month plying to North America, Europe, Australia, Japan and Australia.
