Religion in China has always been of prime importance through the centuries and eras of civilizations. The records hold the names of 72 kings spanning several dynasties who made the pilgrimage. As a result, there sprung up several temples and shrines in the Mount Taishan in China, and have served as a place of pilgrimage for 3,000 years, not just for kings but also other renowned personalities of China and also for commoners. Standing on an area of 462 Sq Km, the Mount Taishan in China was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the year 1987. The Mount Taishan in China still continues to draw close to 3 million visitors annually. The important historic relics in the Mount Taishan in China are the Heavenly Queen Pool, the Red Gate Palace, the Mid-Heaven Gate, the Azure Cloud Temple, the Buddhist Diamond Sutra, the Scripture of Mt. These include the sunrises from the east, the Sunset Glow, the Sea of Clouds and the Golden Belt along the Yellow River.
