Constructed in the Zhanjiawan Village, about 20 kilometers north of the Xian city, the tomb features a joint tomb of Lui Qi, the Emperor of the Western Han Dynasty and his wife, Empress Wang. Built in 153 AD, this tomb spreads over an area of about 20 square kilometers. This majestic site includes the Emperor's Tomb, the Empress's Tomb, the North and South Burial Pits, Ceremonial Site, Human Sacrifice Graveyard and Criminals' Cemetery.

The Tomb of Emperor Liu Qi, Xian features the Emperor's Tomb which is positioned at the middle of the site. It is here, that the brick chess board and the biggest tile have been discovered. The ulterior chamber shaped like the Chinese character ‘ya' consists of passages on all its four sides. The tomb is encircled by a tall wall on each of its side. There are four huge entrances in the center of each wall. Only the southern gate is opened for the visitors. There are 86 outside pits of various sizes filled with funerary materials. During the site's excavation, chariots and horses, pottery works indicating bare human body and animal figures, arms and ammunition, and things for regular uses are found.

The Empress's Tomb is quite smaller comparatively. It is another notable feature of the Tomb of Emperor Liu Qi, Xian. Here too, the shape of the ulterior chamber resembles the Chinese letter ‘ya'. Its length is about 350 meters. The tomb is surrounded by an earthen wall featuring four gates on every side. There are 31 outside pits excavated at this site.

The North and South Burial Pits are located to the northwest and the southeast of the Emperor's tomb respectively. Each contains 24 pits of different sizes covering an area of about 96,000 square meters. Later some more pits were found including decorated pottery works of male and female figures, and figures of servants, singers and dancers, arms and utensils.

Situated on the south-east of the Emperor's Tomb in the Tomb of Emperor Liu Qi, Xian is the Ceremonial Site – Loujing Stone Site. Circumvented by moats, the site is about 260 meters in length. In the middle part, there is an earthen platform. There are twelve doors on all the four sides. The Loujing Stone is the ancient stone used in assessing height and other measurements.

The Tomb of Emperor Liu Qi, Xian also features the Outside Pits Exhibition Hall. Built in the underground, it occupies an area of about 7,850 square meters. It consists of ten outside pits covered with glass around the Emperor's Tomb. These pits comprise pottery figures of human beings, animals, chariots and horses.
