You have come to the heart of Egypt, Aswan that is a town, which is the skirting point, almost nine hundred kilometers south of Cairo; it is set almost at the onset point of the Egypt. Nile is interspersed with lot of granite islands in Aswan. Elephantine Island is the largest island among the granite islands out there in the bosom of the Nile. Elephantine Island is the largest and most famous island in the clusters of the island, located just on the bang opposite of the modern town. One of the oldest sites in Egypt, which dates back to the ancient periods, colored in fables. Elephantine Island is most commonly known as the Abu or Yabu as it dealt with the trading of Ivory.

The site enjoys an exceptional defensive boundary, which is all but natural, skirting the south; the elite people of the past took to the title Guardians of the Southern Gate.The Khnum is the ram headed God of the cataracts, one of the triads- goddesses Satet and Anuket also famed as the God who is also the creator. The God Khnum had his main center at the Elephantine Island. There is a temple of this God which is almost reduced to ruins, it is at the southern end of the island, dates back to eighteenth century. Other main attractions on the island include an ancient Nilometer, one of only three that is on the Nile, the Elephantine Museum, the old town, and the colorful Nubian village. Most of the artifacts have gathered moss and the town has gone through spate of excavations to bring out the historical valuables from the heart of the Egyptian soil, one is the mummified ram of Khnum, which has found its place in one of the museums of the island.
