The God Khnum had his main center at the Elephantine Island. There is a temple of this God which is almost reduced to ruins, it is at the southern end of the island, dates back to eighteenth century. Other main attractions on the island include an ancient Nilometer, one of only three that is on the Nile, the Elephantine Museum, the old town, and the colorful Nubian village. Most of the artifacts have gathered moss and the town has gone through spate of excavations to bring out the historical valuables from the heart of the Egyptian soil, one is the mummified ram of Khnum, which has found its place in one of the museums of the island.
