One of the main landmark pools of the past is the Piscine Deligny, a Belle Epoque floating pool in the Seine and Molitor. Built in 1805, the Piscine Deligny had the distinction of being the first floating pool in Paris but it eventually sank in 1995.

French Swimming Pool Regulations
Being a regular feature in the French households the authorities have issued few rules and regulations for installing pool in the houses.

  -   Owners of outdoor in-ground pools in Paris should have approved security systems. This includes pool fences/safety barriers, pool covers and pool alarms.
  -   When purchasing or agreeing the installation of pool security one should request models bearing the NF official mark of conformity.
  -   Swimming pool safety devices are not and should not be viewed as a replacement for the vigilance of parents in taking responsibility for the well being of children using the pools.
  -   If one does not comply with the stated standards a fine of € 45,000 is to be paid.
