INTRODUCTION:
Berlin's transformation into Europe's most cosmopolitan cities after surviving the destruction caused to it by the Two World Wars and the Cold War attracts tourists from all over the world. Brandenburg Gate: This is the symbol of freedom and unity. It was built during the reign of Frederick William II. The gate led one to the royal palace. It is the ultimate symbol of peace which has regained its glory when it was reopened in 1989 with the bringing down of the Berlin Wall.
Berlin Wall: Being built in 1961 to divide Berlin into East and West was 160 km long. It was brought down in 1989 and this signaled the reunification of Germany. The barrier between the East and the West was destroyed by the joyous German crowd. The only remaining part is the East Side Gallery.
Reichstag: It is a historic seat which has been revived in 1999. The building was pulled down during the Nazist regime. Tourist go on a long winding walk to reach its and have a good view of the city below. It is the greatest attraction for the tourists. Today is the seat of the German Government.
Checkpoint Charlie: This is opened for visitors from 9.00 am to 10.00pm. it is situated just beside the great divider between the east and the west. A few yards away is the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.
Ka De We: Located in the heart of the city of Berlin, it is a joy for the tourists. It is the largest departmental store in continental Europe. A wise range of articles are available here with a traditional food shop on the basement.
Berliner Dom: it is the base of the famous Berlin Cathedral built in 1905. There are several historical structure beside it. This has been a spot for a church since 1465 which has ravaged several times throughout the history of Berlin. Visitors throng this place to have a glimpse of the beautifully crafted dome full of mosaics and historical photos. The sepultures of the old church hold the casket of 80 Prussian kings.
Museum Island: It is an archipelago of world renowned Museums in the central part of Berlin a tour of this Museum Island will give us an idea of the historical development and artwork.
Tiergarten Park: It is the largest park in Berlin. This is also the site for the famous annual Love Parade. It is a must see attraction for the tourists who is enchanted by the series of tall lime trees planted on both side of its alley.
Charlottenburg Palace: The largest existing palace of Berlin, Charlottenburg Palace is utilisd todayas the Museum and a virtual tourist spot. This palace was built in memory of Sophie Charlotte, the wife of Frederick III. The parks adjacent to the royal gardens act as a local neighborhood park.
Unter den Linden: This is the most renowned street of Berlin lined with Linden or Lime trees. It is located in the historic section of the city through which Frefderick III could have a more appealing tour from his palace at Brandenburg to Tiergarten, his hunting ground.
