Frankfurt is located in Central Germany. A major contributor to Germany’s economy; this city abounds in business houses and banks. European Central Bank is located here and that is why this metropolitan city is regarded as the financial capital of Europe. With new skyscrapers everyday adding to the already crowded Frankfurt skyline; this modern city has surprisingly preserved a sufficiently vast stretch of jungle. Covering 48 square kilometers, the Frankfurt City Forest contains some watch towers that provide a good view of the adjacent areas. Goetheturm or Goethe Tower is located in the forest and provides possibly the best view of the Frankfurt city.

Completely made of wood, Goetheturm sits on the northern edge of the Frankfurt City Forest in Frankfurt Saxonia living. It is said that the noted poet and novelist Wolfgang von Goethe had once walked through this jungle trail and was much influenced by the solitude. This tower was later on built and named after him. The Goethe tower provides a very good view of the North West suburbs of Frankfurt through a thick vegetation of trees.

The Goetheturm or Goethe observation tower is 43 meters high. A visitor has to climb 196 stairs to reach the top of this tower. This tower was the highest wooden observatory till 1999 that was accessible to the general public. However in 2005, this tower was closed for the tourists. Two other towers have now been constructed that serve as observatories. A large children’s playground is there at the foot of this tower. There is a beer garden as well. combined all these factors together; Goetheturm was a favorite hang out place for tourists in Frankfurt.

Apart from serving as an observatory, Goetheturm also functions as a transmission tower for the portable radio.
