Theresienwiese, Munich hosts the most celebrated Munich Octoberfest. The Octoberfest is held annually between September and October. This concrete patch of ground covers a space of almost 420,000 square meters. “Theresienwiese” could be translated in German as “Teresa’s Meadow”. Therese of Saxe Hildburghausen was the wife of Crown Prince Ludwig I. This huge park extends in the west where it is limited by a statue of Bavaria symbolizing the Bavarian state and in the east it is limited by a square named Esperanto. Located in the centre of Munich, in the east of the Hauptbahnhof, Theresienwiese, Munich is wedged between the districts of Ludwigvorstadt and Westend.
To commemorate the wedding of Therese of Saxe Hildburghausen and Crown Prince Ludwig I on Theresienwiese in 1810 Octoberfest is celebrated every year with great joy and pomp. To add to the fun and celebration a spring festival and a winter festival (Winter Tollwood) is also held. Germany’s greatest flea market is also held here every year in April.
Theresienwiese, Munich, located in the south-west of the city centre was selected to host the public screening of the Semi-final of the 2006 World Cup match in Dortmund, in which Germany played Italy.

Bus: lines 58 to Georg-Hirth-Platz or line 62, 66 to Alte Messeplatz/Theresienhohe.
Tram: lines 18, 19, N19 to Holzapfelstrasse or Hermann-Lingg-Strasse.
Car: inadvisable but access from the west is possible via the A96 (Lindau) or A95 motorways and the Mittlerer Ring Road.
U-Bahn: U4 or U5 to Theresienwiese.
By S-Bahn: The site is located towards the southwest of the city centre.
