Phaeno Science Center Germany
The Phaeno Science Center, Germany is a new interactive science center in Wolfsburg. It is the first of its kind in Germany and puts the full stop in a chain of culturally important buildings: by Scharoun, Aalto and Schweger. The Phaeno Science Center will certainly astonish you at he very first glance. It is an object of mystery, a kind of riffling earthwork, surmounted by a hovering frame to a stranger. The Phaeno Science Center, Germany was inspired by a Technorama, a science center in Switzerland after Guthardt then the City's Director for Culture, Sports and Education, visited it. He decided to build a science center in Wolfsburg to complement both Autostadt and the Kunst Museum. The initial planning for the museum began in November 1998. After one year Joe Ansel, an American consultant and designer was given the charge of the exhibitions and other operational aspects of the project. Zaha Hadid, a notable architect won the architectural design competition was held in January 2000. Nearly after five years later the Phaeno Science Center was open to the public on November 24, 2005 with over 250 interactive exhibits from Ansel Associates, Inc. The total building is enveloped in an amazing concrete structure designed by Zaha Hadid and her German associate, Mayer Bährle architects. The architectural design has been described as "hypnotic work of architecture - the kind of building that utterly transforms our vision of the future." The undercroft is perhaps the most successful part of the building. The undercroft is a dark grotto, carved out of looming dreamlike forms. The doorways carved out of the concrete direct you up to an echoing barn full of gesticulating displays, mostly at child-height. Though the buildings and its exhibits are somewhat a mis-match but exhibitions come and go.
The Phaeno Science Center, Germany is fascinating because it gives the realization of an imaginative world that we know vividly through twenty years of abstract images. So you must pay a visit at this marvel of architecture.
