Bank of China Tower Hong Kong
While taking a walk down the streets of the central district in Hong Kong, one late evening, you are sure to come across a bright and illuminated structure, amidst many dark concrete structures. That is unmistakably the Bank of China Tower, Hong Kong, which has used the 25mm thick pattern cut lights, the largest of its kind used outside the United States of America. The construction of this building begun in the year 1985 and it was inaugurated formally in 1990. The shape of the Bank of China Tower, Hong Kong resembles the bamboo shaft. Bamboo is the symbol of strength, development and vivacity in the Chinese tradition. If you observe carefully, you will see that the base is a little broader than the upper portion, just like a bamboo stem. With a reception area stretching to 15 floors, the building was the first outside America to cross thousand feet.
The Bank of China Tower, Hong Kong replaced the old Bank of China Tower as the headquarters of the Bank of China. This was a challenge for the Bank of China to stay one step ahead of the HSBC building and this challenge was taken up by the designer, I. M. Pei. It has remained many steps ahead until now as the tallest building around in the Central district. For a panoramic view of the central district and the surroundings you can go to the 42nd floor.
It is said to be the representative of the Hong Kong city in more ways than one. Blending perfectly well with the new look city, the modern architectural shape of the Bank of China Tower; Hong Kong reflects the style of the central district. It embraces an international technique and yet looks very much Chinese in form.
