Agra is famous for Taj Mahal. Ranked as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this marble carved mausoleum is the resting place of Shah Jahan's beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The construction took 16 years to complete and when Taj was finally built in 1648, the beauty and grandeur of it impressed everybody including the emperor himself. Though people equate taj with Agra, the numerous parks and gardens and Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri (in the vicinity of Agra) too draws hoards of crowd to this city. An integral part of Mughal architecture, parks and gardens also exude religious motifs. Alasi(Lazy) Bagh in Agra one such garden that still to this day impresses a lot of tourists.

Alasi Bagh garden is located on the banks of the river Yamuna. Alternately called as Aram Bagh, this garden is attributed to the great Mughal Emperor Babar. It is said that Babar created this garden with so many trees to escape from the intense heat of scorching Agra summer. The garden abounds in flowery trees like narcissus and the rose. This garden is not merely about blossoming flowery trees. Rather Alasi Bagh garden is a perfect combination of sight and smell and shadow. The ripe fruit trees like the lemon, pomegranate and orange are a sight to behold and the trees like cypress and poplar offer a natural umbrella from the intense sunshine. Though much water has flown through Yamuna since the time of Babur; the garden however has been preserved in the same way.

Since the Mughals were originally Persians; Alasi Bagh in Agra is built on the Persian style. In accordance with the classic style, waterways run through the middle of this garden. The waterway thus divides the garden into two symmetrical rectangles. The beautiful fountains too are placed in the middle to facilitate unrestricted viewing from all the corners of the garden. To facilitate water distribution to all the plants in the garden; raised platforms had been built. These raised platforms then flow the water through sloped channels.
