Srirangapatna, Bangalore is a famous historical city. It is an island town encircled by river Cauvery. Srirangapatna was once the capital of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, "The Tiger of Mysore". The town has got its name from the famous Ranganathaswamy temple which overlooks the town, making Srirangapatna one of the most important Vaishnavite centers of pilgrimage in south India. Srirangapatna continues in a ruined state recalling the Battles fought and the past glory.

Srirangapatna, Bangalore houses a lot of attractions for the visitors. The island fortress of Tipu Sultan is one of the major attractions here. This legendary fortress is the place from where Tipu Sultan attacked the British soldiers with his legendry sword. Within the Fort are a Mosque and the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. The town is celebrated for the very ancient temple devoted to Sri Ranganathaswamy, a form of Lord Vishnu. Devotees come here to offer prayers to Sri Ranganathaswamy. Besides these there are many other attractions here. The Jumma Masjid (a Mosque) and the Daria Daulat Bagh are frequented by tourists all over India. The Daria Daulat Bagh was constructed in 1784. This Summer Palace was one of Tipu's favorite retreats. Made of teak, this Indo-Saracen structure has ornate and beautiful frescoes. The Gumbaz which houses the mortal remains of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali and his mother has magnificent ebony doors inlaid with ivory. The wall has Tipu's favorite Tiger stripes. The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a must go for the visitors. Located 4 kms from Srirangapatna, this Bird Sanctuary is home to several alien species of birds like the Painted Stork, Open-billed Stork, Black-headed Ibis, River Tern, Great Stone Plover and Indian Shag. Birds from as far away as Siberia come here every year. The Karighatta (Black Hill) and its temple of Lord Srinivasa is another attraction here. The deity is that of Kari-giri-vasa (one who resides on the black hill). The famous Nimishambha temple is located in the near by district of Ganjam is also a must go in Srirangapatna.
