Chandigarh is also known as the City beautiful, is a city in Northern India that serves as the capital of two states: Punjab and Haryana. The city is administered by the Government of India and hence classified as a Union territory. Chandigarh is known for its high standard of living and tops the list of Indian states with a human development index of 0.674. Chandigarh is located in the fringes of the shivalik range of the Himalayas in Northwest India. Chandigarh spans over an area of 114 km2. It shares its borders with the states Haryana in south and Punjab in the north. The city has is situated 321 meters above sea level. The state Himachal Pradesh is very close to Chandigarh.

The airport is 11km downtown. Chandigarh is accessible by air from most of the Indian cities. Chandigarh is linked with New Delhi by rail. The railway station is 8 kms away from city centre. Chandigarh is very well connected by road to all the neighboring states and cities. Chandigarh is well served by an excellent network of roads.

There are numerous tourist attractions in and around Chandigarh city. Leisure valley is the most beautiful and popular tourist destination in Chandigarh. This garden beautifies the entire city. Chandi mandir is located 15 kms away from the city and this temple is dedicated to the goddess of Chandi.The city of Chandigarh was named after this temple. The City Museum was established in 1997 which showcases the city's development through the years. The government museum and art gallery has a good collection of paintings, sculptures and other works by famous Indian artists.
