Air Force Museum New Delhi
Until the opening of Naval Air Museum in Goa, Air Force Museum was the only one of its kind in India. Air Force Museum is located on the outskirts of New Delhi, near the International Airport. The Museum exhibits numerous photographs, the newest models of aircrafts lying alongside the older make of the same model, memorials all pertaining to the brave world of Indian Air Force.Air Force Museum aims at presenting the complete history of Indian Air Force right from its inception to its present day. The Museum houses aircrafts that were used by the Indian Air Force during the time of World War II, it also has aircrafts that were employed at the time of Kargil War.
Air Force Museum has an indoor gallery and an outdoor gallery. The indoor gallery houses photographs, uniforms, memorabilia and weapons that were used in various wars. There are separate sections on photographs of Martyrs; the gallery also includes mannequins that are attired in the gears of a pilot.
The Outdoor Gallery has sections on Captured Vehicles, which has few vehicles that belonged to the war opposition; also to be seen are many models of aircrafts with details of their history given.
The hanger of the Museum is also extremely popular among the visitors since it has numerous famous military aircrafts notable among which is the Westland- the first plane that crossed the Khyber Pass in 1929.
The Museum also has a tiny Souvenir Corner from where the visitors can buy key-chains, Chinaware, T-shirts and bottle openers.
The best time to visit Air Force Museum is on the 8th of October which is celebrated as Air Force Day. To mark the occasion, there is a special parade of Indian Air Force.
The admission to Air Force Museum is free and open to all. The Museum remains closed on Monday and Tuesday.
