Republic Day Parade, New Delhi
The Republic Day Parade is the annual cultural parade that is a celebrated on 26th January. Though the Republic Day celebrations are held in all parts of the India, the largest and the most important of all these is held in the Indian capital. So the phrase 'Republic Day Parade' usually refers to the parade that is held in the Indian capital every year.The celebrations begin with the hoisting of the national flag that is followed by the parade of the armed forces and the school children. The colorful procession begins from the Rashtrapati Bhavan through Rajpath and finally enters to the historic Red Fort. Before the parade initiates, the Prime Minister of India, lays a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate. After this the President of India, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, arrives along with the Chief Guest of celebration. It is the president who presides over the function.
The Republic Day Parade begins with the 21 gun salute which is immediately followed by the unfurling of the Indian national Flag. As soon as the president hoists the flag, the National Anthem is played. The entire process is followed with the winners of the gallantry awards passing in the jeeps. After this the various wings of the Armed Forces salute the President of India as they pass by him.
The Republic Day Parade draws a large number of crowds, who come to experience this grand occasion. The crowds generally sit on the either side of the route with the VIPs having their seat near the India Gate. The Republic Day Parade exhibits the all the latest acquisitions of the Indian military. See the tanks, the missiles and the radars that are owned by the Indian Military. After the military parade is performed by the three divisions of the Armed Forces, there are massive parades of the Police contingents, Home guards, civil defense and the National Cadet Corps.
The military parade is followed by the cultural award with tableaux that belong
to different states of India. All these unfurl the great historic and the cultural
richness of India. This is followed by the children, the winners of the National
Bravery Awards, who ride on the back of the elephants with a beautiful smile
on their faces. The parade also displays the various skills of the Indian Air
Force and the skilful motor cycle riders. The parade concludes with a Fly Past
when the fighter planes pass saluting the President.
