India Gate Delhi

The India Gate, Delhi is the war memorial for the 70,000 soldiers who lost their life during the World War I. The magnificent arc is around 42m high. The India Gate, Delhi is located at the centre of New Delhi. The gate was laid by the Royal Highness, the duke of Connaught in 1921. The design plans were laid by Edwin Lutyens.

The India Gate, Delhi also has a flame beneath the arch which burns day and night in order to remember the soldiers who laid their lives during the December 1971, Indo-Pakistan War. The flame is known to be as the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

The shrine is a black marble commemorative which has a rifle placed on the cask peaked by the helmet of a soldier. The Amar Jawan Jyoti is placed in four corners which mean it has four flames.

The India Gate, Delhi stands erect on a low base made up of Bharatpur stone and rise in stages to a huge cornice, beneath which inscription of Imperial suns is made. The both sides are inscribed by India which is edged by MCM and at the right XIX. An extraordinary view of the Rastrapati Bhavan is seen from the basement of the arch. The top of the arch has a shallow domed bowl which was intended to be filled with oil in the anniversary of the gate.

The verdant green picture of the lawns beside the India Gate, Delhi is a great view. During the evenings the India Gate looks all decorated with dazzling lights. The lawns serve as the picnic spots for the tourists and visitors. The fountains serve to add more beauty to the lawns. The colored light on the fountains are a delight to watch .There are other entertainment packages in the India Gate, Delhi. Camel rides and monkey dances are the common ones among these.

The location of the India Gate, Delhi is on the Rajpath from where a number of roads star off. At night when the Gate is lit off the view is spectacular. It is one of the most significant tourist place and easily accessible.
