The early Indian players namely the four Palwankar brothers, Ganpat, Baloo, Vithal and Shivram, were some of the most famous stars when cricket was new to India. Particularly Baloo, the slow left arm bowler won special acclamation for his performance and Vithal was nominated the captain of the team that comprised of the Hindus. In 1929 the Board of Control for Cricket in India was formed which also a stepping stone for test matches the first one was with England three years later. Ranji Trophy began in the year 1935 and is still being played in India. In this tournament every state gets to field its own team. The Cricket World Cup was bought to India in 1983, which was the only one time. Some of the most famous and commonly known Indian tournaments include the Ranji Trophy, the Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and the Challenger Series.
