The Umaid Bhawan Palace is also amongst one of the palaces in Rajasthan that has now been turned into a heritage hotel. Like other palaces also this palace has an intriguing past and the touch of the royal feeling. Maharaja Umaid Singh built this palace during the period of 1929-34 when Jodhpur was famine stricken. This palace is built in the hills. It is located at the top of the Chittar hills. This creates the legend of this palace as this palace is built with the Chittar sandstones. That is why it is also known as the Chittar palace. This palace speaks volumes of the Rajput architecture. It has got extended balconies, large courtyards, huge terraces, blooming gardens and much more. This palace spreads over an area of 26 acres. But there is a distinctive feature of this palace as this palace is segregated into tree parts. The royal family of Gaj Singh uses the first part while the second part is a museum and the third part of Umaid Bhawan Palace serves as the heritage hotel today.
