Displaying selected paintings of famous artistes, the Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala is a very favorite art gallery for connoisseur of art. The Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala was established in 1935 and is located very close to the Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala has a collection of century old and original world famous paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, K.C.S. Panicker, Svetlova, Nicholas Rorich, and exquisite works from the Bengal school of Arts, Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore schools of art in India. Unique collection of paintings from China, Japan, Tibet, Bali and paintings from many parts of the world are also exhibited in the Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala.

The most important attraction of the gallery is the paintings by the pioneering Indian genius in the art of oil painting, Raja Ravi Varma, who was born and brought up at Kilimanoor Palace in Kerala.

Contemporary painters from other parts of the country like Bengal, Rajasthan also contributes to the artistic masterpieces exhibited in the Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala. Manuscripts of immense archival significance and mural paintings, which are unique to Kerala, Mughal miniatures, four hundred year old Tanjavore miniature paintings and etc. make the display in the gallery more amazing and complete. Many antiques belonging to the Travancore royal family are also present here. By displaying such magnificent pieces of art, the Sree Chithra Art Gallery, Kerala also projects a clear picture of the culture of Kerala. Copies of the Ajanta Caves Paintings are also displayed here.
