Nestled in the sprawling slopes of Western Ghats, Munnar is famous for acres of lush green tree gardens. Situated at an altitude of 1600 meters the climate and geological features of this picturesque place is ideal for tea plantation. In an attempt to pay tribute to the visionary tea planters of this region Tata Tea Limited inaugurated a Tea museum. The Tea Museum, Munnar, Kerala is situated at the Nallatanni Tea Estate. Inaugurated on 18th March, 2004 the Tea Museum highlights the milestones in the evolution and growth of tea industry.

Tea Museum, Munnar, Kerala exhibiting a fascinating collection of artifacts, equipments and several devices used in tea gardens or factories, spells out and interesting saga about the foresight and acumen of the vanguards of tea plantation. All the objects on display are preserved carefully to throw lights into the lives and deeds of these unsung heroes. Among the important relics of Tea Museum there are some photographs capturing the images of noteworthy personalities and machines marking the turning points of tea industry.

Some of the display items include the original tea roller, the 'Rotorvane,' dating back to 1905; the 'Pelton Wheel' used in the power generation plant that existed in the 1920s; a wheel of the locomotive of the Kundale Valley Light Railway that would transport men and material between Munnar and Top Station during the early days, as well as furniture, typewriters, a wooden bathtub, iron oven, manual calculators and EPABX of the 1909 telephone system.

Tea Museum, Munnar, Kerala run by the Kannan Devan Hill Plantation Company may be the first of its kind in our country and therefore worth visiting.
