This initiative has been taken only to promote and develop skills for the popularization Kayaking in Kolkata. The trained boys embarked on a unique Kayaking expedition covering a distance 2500 Km named as "MAITREE YATRA" in the year 1988.

In the year 1993, another successful Kayaking expedition was conducted covering a distance of 320 Km on the down stream of river Hooghly by the same institute.
Infact, Sea Explorers’ Institute of Kolkata, imparts excellent training with utmost care and safety to people so that they could emerge as professional Kayakists. Efficient students often take part in the Kayaking championship programmes organized by the institute. Kayaking in Kolkata is gradually gaining a lot of importance as the Government is providing proper inducements to encourage Adventure Tourism.
