Nadia

Nadia

Nadia is a district of the state of West Bengal, in the north east of the Republic of India. You can undertake an excursion from Kolkata to Nadia as the district to the north (about 25 miles) of Calcutta.

The district of Nadia sits very close to the borders of the Calcutta metropolitan area, with the far northern reaches of the city area extending into the southern part of this district. Nadia blissfully falls in the course of The Hooghly (Ganges) River, which has provided fertile agricultural land for the district.

Nadia borders Bangladesh on the east. In fact, Chaitanya, the 15th century mystic was born in Nadia District and lived here in his early life. Nadia District was also the home of the 18th century poet Ramprasad Sen.

On a stroll along the roads of Nadia District, it is common to see pigs (which are domestic, not wild) roaming around. One also sees cows and dogs along the roads.
