A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sundarbans is a part of the world's largest mangrove forest and largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. Located on the lower end of the Gangetic West Bengal, Sundarbans is one of the main Tiger Reserves and National Parks in India. Sundarbans is positively one of the most attractive and enthralling places, which is still exists on earth.

Sundarbans is the residence of man-eating tigers, estuarine crocodiles, estuarine terrapins, Olive Ridley turtles, sharks, poisonous snakes, Ganges dolphins and a wide variety of fish, crustaceans and birds, which includes a Brown-winged Kingfisher, a Grey Headed Lapwing, a Pallas's Fish Eagle. The Sajnekhali Visitors’ Centre has a Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary, crocodile enclosure, a shark pond, a turtle hatchery and a Mangrove Interpretation Centre, which is an attractive destination for the visitors.

How to get to Sundarbans

Sunderbans is just 131 km far off from Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. It is well connected to the rest of India. The rail station and bus depot, which are situated near to Sunderbans Tiger Reserve is Port Canning, which is linked with Kolkata by train. From Port Canning, regular buses available to Sonakhali, Raidighi, Najat and Namkhana. From all of these places launches can be rented to explore the waterways of the reserve. To get around within Sunderbans, the solitary mode is by boat. The visitors can enjoy a boat ride, along with a certified guide from the Project Tiger office. To watch the passing wildlife, watchtowers are created in Netidhopan, Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali and Haldi.
The WBTDC coordinates guided tours- mainly for two or three days, starting and ending at Kolkata.

Where to Stay at Sundarbans:

Visitors can stay at Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge and new resorts at Gosaba and Bali Islands. Help Tourism's Sundarban Jungle Camp is comfortable. Visitors can stay on board launches, which they arrange.

Best time to visit in Sundarbans:
Sunderbans is open to visitors from October to March. However, in winter the area is not as hot and humid as the rest of the year, so, between December and February is the best time to visit at Sunderbans.
