King Nabokrishna Deb set the tradition of Durga Puja in his royal palace in the historical year of 1757 when Lord Clive won the Battle of Plassey. Raja Nabokrishna Deb invited Lord Clive to his palace to take part in Durga Puja. It is since then the Durga Puja is held in Shovabazar Rajbari, Kolkata every year with the same pomp and grandeur. The region of Shobha Bazar is enriched with many schools and educational institutes. Scottish Church College located in the vicinity of Shobha Bazar is equally famous.
