It was established as health resort in the year 1829. it was also used to house the Chinese and Malay convicts. It was those convicts who started the cultivation of red potatoes , strawberries and other fruits. They also cultivated bamboos and introduced cane baskets. There are different forms of tourist attraction in Mahabaleshwar. The Wilson point or the sunrise and sunset point is the highest point . It is 4710 ft above sea level. The second highest peak is the Connaught peak – it presents the panoramic view of the green plateau. Arthur’s seat is known as the queen of all points. From here one can see the barren deep valley Savitri on the left and shallow green valley on the right. The Kates point offers the breathtaking view of Krishna valley and deep waters of the Dhom dam.

There are good vegetarian hotels and motels in Mahabaleshwar offering good and clean services to the tourists. One can access Mahabaleshwar through road. The nearest airport and railway station is Pune. From there the tourists have to hire a taxi or board a bus.
