Introduction:
The concept of Nehru Centre, Mumbai or also known as the Nehru Planetarium was formerly developed by late Shri Rajni Patel and other great thinkers who had a foresight to make India confident in these senses. This concept had come into existence in the year 1972. They wanted to develop a sense of ideals of enlightened curiosity, a world view, secular values, scientific temper, and also a faith in the people of India. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi , grand daughter to late Mr. Motilal Nehru and daughter to the first prime minister of India, Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru , laid the foundation stone . This occasion took place on November 2, 1972 . This whole area covers up almost six-acre plot, which is leased by the Government of Maharashtra.
Foundation:
The Nehru Planetarium was later on got its status as a Centre for scientific study of astronomy and meeting and conference place on 3rd March 1977 . Since then it has grown into an acknowledged scientific study center and meeting place for aspiring as well as well known scientists and scholars. These scholars and scientists gather at this Nehru Center, Mumbai for discussions and lectures, which are arranged periodically on various topics and Astronomical events.
