Mysore, the city of palaces is often considered as the cultural and historical hub of the city. The city was the former political capital of the Wodeyar Dynasty which ruled the city for around 150 years. The Wodeyars also known as the Royal family of Mysore was known to be great patrons of art and culture. During their reign they build huge architectural monuments that exist till date.

Though the reign ended after India attained its Independence in 1947, Mysore still retains the historic charm in its structures. Another storehouse of Mysore's rich cultural history is the Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery, Mysore. Another must visit for the tourists is the Folklore Museum in Mysore. Built in 1968, one can find a large selection of folk art and crafts from across the Mysore, Karnataka.
