Corbett National park is one of the oldest and the first national parks of India. It was established in the year 1936 and had different name before. But during the year 1955-1956 it was renamed as the Corbett National Park, India after the famous hunter Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett is famous for hunting down two tigers that had turned into man-eaters. The national park is also famous for the diverse form of flora and fauna existing there. It is the first national park in India where the program to preserve tigers took off.

Location

The Corbett National Park, India is situated in the state of Uttranchal in the northern parts of India. Previously the park was located in Uttar Pradesh but now with the separation of Uttranchal as a new state has passed on the glory to this new state to hold the heritage of India.

How to reach

The place is accessible from all the major cities of northern India through rail, roads and roadways. But in the interiors of the national park the public conveyance is not allowed but one has to travel in the heavily guarded transportation provided by the forestry department of India. Even elephant rides can be availed for better viewing of the forest. The nearest airport is Pantnagar, which is 133 kms away from the national park. The nearest railway station to the national park is the Ramnagar, which is 50 kms away from the place. The nearest village is Dhikala, which is well connected to all the major townships nearby.

The National park

This national park is first of its own kind to start the program of preserving the tigers. Along with the tigers there are several of the flora that are preserved in their natural habitat. Apart from these the other prominent animals preserved in their natural habitat are the Elephants, Chital, Mugger, Crocodile, Migratory birds and many more. It has lot to offer to the bird watchers especially with 580 different species of birds flocking to the park.
